Inhale Techniques: MTL and DTL

2024-08-30 16:00:00
Vaping can be primarily classified into two styles: Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct to Lung (DTL). Each technique offers a distinct experience and is suited to different types of e-liquids and nicotine strengths.

Choosing between MTL and DTL vaping styles is not just about personal preference; it also determines the appropriate nicotine strength of your e-liquid.

MTL vaping is particularly well-suited for those transitioning from smoking to vaping, as it closely mimics the sensation of smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette. In MTL vaping, a higher resistance atomizer head (typically 1.0 ohm or above) produces less vapour and delivers a softer throat hit. This impacts both the sensation and the choice of nicotine strength in your e-liquid. For instance, e-liquids with higher nicotine concentrations, ranging from 6mg to 18mg, are often used in MTL vaping to provide a more pronounced throat hit, making the experience closer to traditional smoking.

1. Taking a slow inhalation of vapour into the mouth

2. Holding it there momentarily

3. Inhaling it into the lungs

4. Exhaling

Direct-To-Lung vaping represents a more advanced and intense style of vaping, characterized by a direct inhalation of vapour into the lungs. The DTL experience is marked by the inhalation of a larger volume of vapour, which can result in a more intense sensation. This might feel harsher on the throat for those unaccustomed to it, but it also delivers more pronounced flavour and thicker clouds of vapour. This vaping style necessitates more airflow, a deeper inhale, and the use of low-nicotine, high-VG (Vegetable Glycerin)-based e-liquids. E-liquids usually have lower nicotine strengths, such as 3mg to 6mg, to avoid an overwhelming throat hit while still providing substantial vapour production.

1. Inhaling the vapour directly into the lungs

2. Utilizing larger airflow openings – DTL devices feature larger airflow openings, allowing for greater vapour production and smoother inhalation.

3. Using low resistance coils – Coils with resistance typically below 0.5 ohms are used to maximize vapour production.

4. Operating at high wattage settings – DTL vaping generally requires wattage settings ranging from 25W to 200W, depending on the device and user preference.
